The detail

Light it at the new moon, write the intention, and let it burn while you sit. Put it out and relight at the same hour through the waxing weeks. The candle is a timer with a memory attached, which is most of what ritual objects actually are.

Materials & care

Soy wax, cotton wick, 8 oz amber glass. Trim the wick to 5 mm before each lighting. First burn should run 2 hours so the wax pools to the edge, or it will tunnel for the rest of its life.
